Boys hoops playoff roundup: Denton Ryan edges Little Elm, 61-59

Class 5A

Garland Naaman Forest 60, A&M Consolidated 51: In Fairfield, Naaman Forest made 18 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter to advance to the 5A Region II semifinals. For the game, Naaman Forest (27-7) was 26-for-31 from the free throw line.

Kent High led Naaman Forest with 21 points, Demarcus Holland had 15 points and five assists, and Trent Dawson scored 13. Texas signee Prince Ibeh had 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots for Naaman Forest.

Class 4A

Denton Ryan 61, Little Elm 59: At Prosper, Trey Mohair scored a game-high 28 points to lead Denton Ryan, the No. 3 seed from District 4-4A, to a victory over 4-4A champion Little Elm.

Ryan (21-11) advanced to face Fort Worth Trimble Tech in the 4A Region I semifinals Friday in Snyder. Since 2009, Ryan is 8-3 in the playoffs, including three wins in 2012.

Little Elm was led by Devante Pullum’s 20 points and 18 from Anthony Egwu. Little Elm (28-7) almost overcame a five-point deficit with 9.5 seconds left in the game, but a half-court heave missed the mark on the final shot of the game.

Fort Worth Arlington Heights 62, Fort Worth Southwest 50: At the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center, Justin Hemphill, Damontre McFarland and Travis Williams all scored 12 points for Arlington Heights. Arlington Heights led by only four at halftime before outscoring Southwest, 34-26, in the second half.
