Marcus routs Plano West
Oklahoma State signee Phil Forte scored 22 points to lead the Flower Mound Marcus boys to a 63-42 win over Plano West on Tuesday in a matchup of two teams ranked in the top five in the state.
Defending 5A state champion Marcus (26-2, 8-0 District 8-5A), the state’s top-ranked team, trailed by two at the end of the first quarter but then outscored fifth-ranked Plano West, 35-17, over the second and third quarters. Marcus leads 8-5A by two games over Plano West (20-7, 6-2) and Hebron.
Ryan alone in first
Teana Ogden had 19 points and eight assists, and Rasheeba Walker had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Denton Ryan girls gained sole possession of first place in District 4-4A with a 54-42 win vs. Wichita Falls Rider, the state’s 11th-ranked team.
Keyunta Watkins had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead the Trophy Club Byron Nelson boys to a 51-46 overtime win over Birdville that left the teams tied for first in 5-4A. … The Highland Park boys, ranked 12th in the state in 4A, rallied from a six-point halftime deficit for a 39-38 win over Wylie. … The Garland Naaman Forest boys gained sole possession of first in 10-5A with a 59-50 win vs. Rowlett. … The Lincoln girls, No. 2 in the state in 4A, are 23-0 after a 73-9 win vs. Hillcrest. … The Plano West girls, No. 6 in the state in 5A, pushed their lead in 8-5A to three games with a 47-36 win vs. Flower Mound Marcus.
Eric Reed, Mesquite, post: Scored 25 to lead Mesquite (14-10, 3-1 District 11-5A) to a 55-52 win over DeSoto (22-5, 3-1), the state’s sixth-ranked 5A team.
Jordan Mason, Ennis, guard: The Colorado State signee scored 28 to lead Ennis (14-12, 8-3) to a 79-69 win over District 15-4A leader Lancaster (14-8, 10-1).
Devante Kincade, Skyline, guard: The second-team all-state quarterback scored 28 to help Skyline (11-13, 5-3) to a 68-66 win over 9-5A leader Richardson Berkner (19-7, 7-1), the state’s 12th-ranked 5A team. Chavis Wright’s three-point play in the final half-minute gave Skyline the lead for good.
Devonse Reed, Wilmer-Hutchins, guard: Scored 36 points to lead the state’s 10th-ranked 3A team to a 71-70 win over No. 7 Carrollton Ranchview.
Taylor Vincent, Keller, guard/forward: Scored 26 points as Keller (22-6, 9-1) beat Saginaw, 56-38, and remained tied with Southlake Carroll for first place in District 7-5A.
Kennedy Leonard, Southlake Carroll, point guard: The freshman had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as Carroll (25-3, 9-1 District 7-5A) beat Justin Northwest, 90-36. Kate Lewis scored 19 for the state’s eighth-ranked 5A team.
Alexis Jones, Irving MacArthur, guard: The Duke signee scored 29 as defending 5A state champ MacArthur (27-2, 12-0 in 6-5A), the state’s top-ranked team, beat Irving, 83-18.
Doneshia Page, Pinkston, center: Had 28 points and eight rebounds in a 55-39 win vs. Adamson. Ke’Borschea Rusk added 21 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
32: Points scored by Breanna Hayden for the Madison girls in a 79-57 victory against Roosevelt.
10: Steals by Jamaika Hughes for Kennedale, the state’s No. 2-ranked 3A girls team, in an 83-19 win vs. Venus. She had 17 points.
14: Points in the fourth quarter for Frisco’s Ryan Thomas in a 73-55 win vs. Newman Smith. He finished with 25 points.
