Jackson Jeffcoat says Texas coach Rick Barnes will allow him to play basketball

Playing two sports in high school is a tough challenge for any athlete. Doing it in college is another story.

But it looks like Plano West's Jackson Jeffcoat will give it a try.

After announcing his committment on Friday to play football at Texas, Jeffcoat told reporters that coach Rick Barnes said he'll be allowed to give basketball a try while he's on campus.

"That's a big thing for me," Jeffcoat said. "I would love to play basketball. They said I could be like a P.J. Tucker guy -- use my body real well. Basketball is very important to me, and I love playing it."

Jeffcoat is averaging 12.1 points and 8.8 rebounds in 15 games as a forward for Plano West.
