Argyle clinches 1st state tournament berth with 4-1 win in 3A Region II final

Senior Drew Gooch did not surrender an earned run for the second straight round, and in six innings he struck out seven and scattered four hits as Argyle wrapped up a sweep of the best-of-3 Class 3A Region II final with a 4-1 win over Paris North Lamar.

Argyle reached the state tournament for the first time in program history. Argyle’s opponent for Wednesday’s state semifinals will be announced by the UIL on Sunday. The games will take place at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin.

Cutter McDonald led Argyle at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI.
