Tough 4th inning puts Mansfield Legacy in 0-1 hole in 4A Region II finals vs. Hallsville
Hallsville scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning and then held on to beat Mansfield Legacy in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 4A Region II final series at Tillery Field in Mesquite.
Hallsville starting pitcher Connor Reich, a TCU signee, struggled with his command but did enough to keep Legacy from stringing together runs. He threw 121 pitches in 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking five. Reich allowed just two hits.
Hallsville scored all three of its runs after loading the bases in the fourth. Colton Oberthier singled in the first run, then Reich helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly. Jacob Walker later scored on an error after a rundown.
Legacy catcher Corey Murray hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cut Hallsville’s lead to one. Relief pitcher Logan Bailey got a groundout with the tying run at third to end the game.
Legacy will try to even the series against Hallsville at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tillery Field.
