Baseball playoffs: 9th-inning single lifts Jesuit; Martin, Allen advance with Game 3 wins
A two-out single by Grant Reuben drove in Jordan Lee with the winning run in the top of the ninth as Jesuit beat Plano East, 5-4, in Game 3 of a best-of-3 first-round Class 5A playoff series Saturday.
Lee and Cameron Dobbs singled with one out in the ninth, and after a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Darius Hill was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up Reuben’s winning hit. Jesuit, the District 9-5A champion, advanced to play Rockwall.
Jesuit was one out from winning the game in the regulation seven innings before Plano East scored three runs with two outs in the seventh to tie it at 4-4. James Rudkin’s RBI single made it 4-2, and Jake Hulsey followed with a two-run double.

Arlington Martin 5, Keller 1: After reaching the 5A state semifinals each of the last two years, Martin escaped a first-round scare by winning Game 3 on Saturday behind the pitching and hitting of Daniel Lingua.
Lingua pitched a five-hitter and also had two RBIs as District 3-5A champion Martin won its second straight after losing 12-1 in the opener of the best-of-3 series. Tony Defilippo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for for Martin (24-8-1).
Allen 12, Richardson Pearce 5: West Virginia signee Cole Carter homered and was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Allen used a 16-hit attack to win Game 3 in the best-of-3 series and advance to the second round in 5A Region II.
Alex McDonald also homered for Allen, and Philip Ingram was 3-for-4 and scored three runs.
Flower Mound 2, Hurst L.D. Bell 1: Skyler Cox reached on a bunt as Chad Paris scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth as Flower Mound won Game 3 and avenged last year’s first-round playoff loss to L.D. Bell.
West Virginia signee BJ Myers pitched 51/3 innings for Flower Mound and allowed one run while striking out seven.
Hebron 2, Colleyville Heritage 1: Travis Stone’s three-hitter and seven strikeouts led Hebron to a Game 3 win over District 6-5A champion Colleyville Heritage.
Trailing 1-0, Hebron scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. Drew Roth’s RBI single drove in the winning run for Hebron, the fourth-place team from 5-5A.
Duncanville 7, Waco Midway 3: TJ Giselbach hit a go-ahead two-run single during a four-run top of the seventh as Duncanville (15-14-1) won Game 3. Duncanville advanced to play Flower Mound Marcus.
McKinney Boyd 4, W.T. White 0: Adrian McFarland pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out seven as Boyd won Game 3 and advanced to the second round. Francisco DeJesus drove in two and scored a run for Boyd.
Richland 7, Arlington 4: Richland scored five runs in the top of the fifth to erase a 2-0 deficit in the decisive third game of the best-of-3 series. Trent Clark’s two-run triple broke a 2-2 tie and gave Richland the lead for good.
Highland Park 5, Frisco Wakeland 4: Brandt Gros hit a walk-off RBI double that scored Thomas Laidlaw in the bottom of the eighth as Highland Park won Game 3 and moved on to play Adamsno. Highland Park scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 4-4.
Mansfield Legacy 4, Whitehouse 3: Blake Wilson pitched a complete game and struck out six as the state’s 10th-ranked 4A team swept its series and advanced to play McKinney North.
Denton Guyer 10, Saginaw 3: Douglas Palmer, making just his third start since district play, needed 101 pitches to throw a five-hit complete game as Guyer swept Saginaw.
