Baseball/softball replay: Jesuit, Colleyville Heritage win in walk-off style

SPOTLIGHT

Jesuit wins thriller: Darius Hill's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Max Ready with the winning run and gave the Jesuit baseball team a 4-3 win over Richardson Berkner. Berkner had tied it with two runs in the top of the seventh. The win kept District 9-5A leader Jesuit (17-5, 9-0) one game ahead of W.T. White. The teams will meet at 4:30 p.m. Friday at W.T. White.

Another late one: The Colleyville Heritage baseball team won in its final at-bat for the third straight game, scoring a run in the top of the seventh to beat Grapevine, 5-4. Trevor Jones' two-out single drove in the winning run.

Big win for Nolan: Emily Prud'homme had two RBIs and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Fort Worth Nolan softball team to a 5-2 win over Bishop Lynch, the No. 5 team in SportsDay's 4A-others area rankings.

Briefly ... LSU spledge Maribeth Gorsuch pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 to lead defending 5A softball state champion Lewisville to a 1-0 win over Flower Mound Marcus. ... Drew Montoya pitched his second straight shutout as the Mansfield Summit baseball team beat Mansfield Lake Ridge, 5-0.

TUESDAY'S STANDOUTS

BASEBALL

Jensen Elliott, Coppell: Threw a four-hit shutout and struck out seven as the area's fourth-ranked 5A team beat No. 9 Flower Mound, 3-0. Ray Gaither drove in all three runs for Coppell (17-7-1, 6-3 District 5-5A) with a bases-loaded double in the first inning.

Ben Leeper, Southlake Carroll: The Stanford pledge pitched a four-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the state's third-ranked 5A team to a 3-1 win over Keller Timber Creek. Carroll (22-2, 8-1) had only two hits but remained tied for first in 4-5A with Keller Fossil Ridge, which beat Justin Northwest, 2-1.

Joseph Ocasio, Little Elm: Pitched six shutout innings and was 2-for-3 in a 1-0 win over Frisco Liberty, the state's eighth-ranked 4A team. Ahmad Benson drove in the only run with a single in the bottom of the sixth.

SOFTBALL

Alex Jennings, Flower Mound: Was 2-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs as the state's third-ranked 5A team beat Coppell, 14-4, and extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games. Flower Mound (22-5-1, 7-0 District 5-5A) trailed 3-0 going to the bottom of the fourth before scoring seven runs in that inning with the help of a three-run double by Jennings.

Lacy Mann, Arlington Martin: Pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 in a 19-0 win over Arlington Lamar.

Kelsey Vining, Plano West: Was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs as the state's 11th-ranked 5A team beat Allen, 12-4. Vining fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle as Plano West (19-6-1, 6-1) remained tied for the District 10-5A lead with McKinney Boyd, which beat Plano, 10-6.

15: Runs scored in the third inning by the Woodrow Wilson baseball team in a 20-0 win over Conrad.

14: Strikeouts for Texas A&M signee Turner Larkins, who pitched a five-hitter as the Arlington Martin baseball team beat Fort Worth Paschal, 8-2.

4: Home runs hit by the Rockwall softball team in a 14-2 win over Mesquite Horn, the area's ninth-ranked 5A team. Rockwall had 12 hits, with seven for extra bases.
