Baseball/softball replay: Southlake Carroll pitcher throws no-hitter, clinches district title

No-hitter gives SL Carroll district title

TCU signee Tyler Alexander threw a no-hitter, striking out 14 as the Southlake Carroll baseball team clinched the District 4-5A title with an 8-0 win over second-place Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday.

Carroll (25-3-1, 12-1), ranked No. 20 in the nation by MaxPreps.com, scored six runs against Oklahoma signee Sheldon Neuse. Chris Altimont and Drew Davis each had three RBIs.

Friday was the last day of the regular season for many UIL softball teams. Here’s a look at who won Dallas-area districts.

District 3-5A: Arlington Martin and Weatherford tied for first at 13-1. Weatherford won their tiebreaker game, 7-6, to earn the No. 1 seed from 3-5A in the playoffs.

4-5A: Richland went 13-1 and won the district by one game over Keller.

5-5A: Flower Mound lost its district opener, then won nine in a row to claim the 5-5A title. Hebron beat Flower Mound Marcus, 1-0, to finish second at 7-3. Marcus, ranked 13th in the state, finished third.

6-5A: Hurst L.D. Bell beat Colleyville Heritage, 10-8, in eight innings to finish 14-0 in district.

7-5A: Mansfield Timberview went 14-0 and won the district by two games over Mansfield. Timberview hasn't lost since March 1.

9-5A: Lake Highlands won the district, and Richardson Pearce was second.

10-5A: McKinney Boyd and Plano West tied for first, and Boyd gets the No. 1 seed because it swept the teams' two district games. Plano East, a 5A state semifinalist last season, finished third.

11-5A: Rowlett beat North Garland, 19-2, to win the district title by one game over Sachse.

12-5A: Rockwall won district. Rockwall-Heath was second.

5-4A: Trophy Club Byron Nelson beat Denton, 10-1, and shared the district title with Wichita Falls Rider. Rider gets the No. 1 seed because it swept Byron Nelson. Denton Guyer and Fort Worth Brewer were one game back.

9-4A:The Colony won the district with an 11-3 record.

10-4A: Forney won the district with a 14-0 record.

11-4A: Molina went 14-0 in district and outscored its opponents 258-28.

12-4A: Hillcrest won district by a game over Woodrow Wilson.

13-4A: Lovejoy went 14-0 in district.

15-4A: In a district that features two teams ranked in the top 10 in the state in 4A, third-ranked Ennis went 14-0 in district and finished two games ahead of No. 8 Mansfield Legacy.

Briefly …

The Flower Mound baseball team, ranked No. 7 in the state in 5A, scored two runs in the seventh to beat Hebron, 2-1. … The Irving Nimitz baseball team won, 8-1, against Colleyville Heritage, which entered the game tied for first in 6-5A. … Josh Heathman threw a shutout as the Cedar Hill baseball team beat Mansfield, 3-0, to clinch a playoff berth. … Oklahoma State signee Matt Wilson struck out 12 as the Highland Park baseball team beat Carrollton Newman Smith, 9-3.

BASEBALL

Algie Saddler, Pinkston: Pitched a four-inning no-hitter, struck out eight and went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and five RBIs in a 12-0 victory over Carter.

Troy Chezem, Allen: Threw a three-hit shutout and struck out seven as Allen beat McKinney Boyd, 4-0, and remained tied with Plano for first place in District 10-5A. Chris Balogh hit a three-run home run for Allen in the sixth to break a scoreless tie.

Brad Vassar, McKinney: Pitched a no-hitter and struck out seven as McKinney beat Plano West, 2-0, and remained one game out of first place in District 10-5A.

Ryan Kinney, Rockwall-Heath: Struck out 10 in six innings as Rockwall-Heath (22-8, 10-1) clinched the District 12-5A title with a 5-1 win over North Mesquite. Tyler Pinkston had two RBIs, and Russell Hughes was 2-for-2.

SOFTBALL

Stephanie Cunningham, Lovejoy: Was 3-for-3 and hit the first home run of her career as Lovejoy beat Wylie East, 18-1.

Audrey Martinez, Hillcrest: Threw a two-hitter, struck out 10 and doubled as Hillcrest beat Woodrow Wilson, 7-3, in a game that decided the District 12-4A title.

Lindsay Jacobs, The Colony: Pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 as The Colony beat Little Elm, 11-0, and won the school's first district title in softball.

Kaylee Rogers, Keller: The freshman pitched a five-hitter as Keller, ranked 22nd in the state in 5A, beat No. 8 Richland, 4-1. It was the first loss for District 4-5A champion Richland since March 2.

Olivia Red, Richardson Pearce: Homered twice, doubled, had eight RBIs and was the winning pitcher as Pearce beat Sunset, 11-4.

STAT SHEET

17: Consecutive wins for Forney in softball after it beat West Mesquite, 18-2. Taylor Penn scored four runs, and Taylor LeFlore was 3-for-3.

14: Strikeouts for Pilot Point softball pitcher Skylar Cagle, who threw a one-hitter as the state's top-ranked 2A team beat Farmersville, 7-0.

7: Consecutive district championships won by the Celina softball team. Celina beat Argyle, 6-4, and has won its last 44 district games.
