Baseball/softball replay (March 8): Marcus star K's 22 in 10-inning win
GAME OF THE DAY
Abilene Christian signee Hannah Null struck out 22, and the Flower Mound Marcus softball team scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Kennedale, 5-1, and remain undefeated.
Facing a Kennedale team that was a Class 3A regional finalist last season, Null (9-0) allowed four hits and one walk for Marcus (14-0), the state’s top-ranked 5A team. She won a pitching duel with Allie Turner, who allowed five hits and struck out 16 for Kennedale (9-9). Null has 40 strikeouts in her last two games.
Maddie Heathington and Madison Greenwell each hit a two-run home run in the 10th to give Marcus the lead. Kennedale scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the fifth, but Marcus tied it on a sacrifice fly by Audrey Pratt in the sixth.
The Ennis softball team scored 17 runs in the third inning in a 25-0 win over Arlington Seguin. Ennis, a 4A regional finalist last season, got four hits apiece from Julia Hollingsworth, Michaela Cochran and pitcher Taylor Maliska. Hollingsworth and UT-Arlington signee Riley Fira each had four RBIs.
Pitcher Skylar Cagle hit a two-run double in the third inning to drive in her team’s only runs as the Pilot Point softball team improved to 15-0-1 with a 2-1 win over Sunnyvale. Cagle didn’t allow a hit and was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single.
Frisco wins slugfest
Frisco beat Garland Naaman Forest, 15-13, in a baseball game that featured 27 hits, including eight for extra bases. Brennen Fischer and P.J. Harris homered for Frisco, and B.J. Marshall homered for Naaman Forest.
Davis Oliver and Austin Gardner, Coppell: Oliver pitched a five-inning perfect game in a 10-0 win over Haltom in the Frisco Tournament of Champions. Later in the day, Gardner, a Wichita State signee, allowed three hits in five scoreless innings to earn the win in a 2-1 victory over Frisco Wakeland, which was No. 3 in the latest 4A state rankings.
Jimmy Gallarda, Hebron: Homered in a 6-0 victory against Frisco Liberty and also homered in a 4-2 win over Frisco Centennial as Hebron (11-3) won twice in the Frisco Tournament of Champions. He finished the day with four hits and also earned a save against Centennial.
Carson Chilton, McKinney Boyd: Threw a six-hit shutout at the Frisco Tournament of Champions in a 3-0 win over Rockwall-Heath — last season’s 4A state champion.
Jamie Andriot, HSAA: Hit a walk-off triple in bottom of seventh to give HSAA a 4-3 victory against Athens in the Princeton Tournament.
Ryan Wright and Briana Walker, Mansfield Legacy: Wright homered and threw a three-inning perfect game, striking out all nine hitters, as Legacy beat Lancaster, 17-0. Walker, a Tulsa signee, homered twice and had eight RBIs for Legacy (15-4-1, 3-0 District 15-4A), the state’s 11th-ranked 4A team.
Ashley Dumoulin, Trophy Club Byron Nelson: The Rhode Island signee pitched a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Lake Dallas.
Danielle Hubbard, Mansfield: Pitched a shutout, struck out nine and hit a game-winning home run in the top of the seventh in a 1-0 win vs. South Grand Prairie.
Haley Freyman, Richland: Allowed one run to get the win and also went 3-for-3 with an RBI as Richland (17-4, 3-0 District 4-5A) beat Southlake Carroll, 8-1.
Darrianne Hale, Bishop Lynch: The transfer from Mesquite Poteet pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Bishop Lynch (15-4, 3-0 TAPPS 1-5A) to a 4-0 win vs. Fort Worth Nolan (14-5-1, 3-1).
35: Runs scored in the softball game between Conrad and Samuell, a 23-12 Conrad win.
10: Runs scored by the Plano softball team in the fourth inning of a 12-1 win vs. McKinney. Tori Seasor and Calli Irvin homered in the inning.
3: Home runs hit by the Mesquite Poteet softball team in a 6-2 win vs. Carrollton Newman Smith.
Jackson Owens, Lake Dallas: The Florida State pledge homered in a 6-2 victory against South Grand Prairie.
Tori Charters, Keller: The Louisiana Tech signee was 3-for-3 with three runs as Keller (14-2-1, 3-0 in 4-5A), the state’s 10th-ranked 5A team beat Keller Fossil Ridge, 6-1.
