Jesuit wins district title on walk-off walk

Max Ready drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Jesuit baseball team clinched the District 9-5A title with a 5-4 win over Lake Highlands on Tuesday.

Lake Highlands, which fell to 9-3 in district, scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the score, 4-4. But with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Shea Stine and Joe Powell singled to put runners at first and third. After a strikeout and a walk, Ready drew the game-winning walk for Jesuit (20-6-1, 12-0).

Horn wins district

UT-Arlington signee Hayley LeMonds had a triple and inside-the-park home run as the Mesquite Horn softball team beat Mesquite, 9-6, and won the District 11-5A title. Andrea Trevino doubled and tripled for Horn (23-7, 10-0).

Tied up in 8-5A

The Plano baseball team beat Lewisville, 13-7, to move into a tie with Plano East for first place in District 8-5A with a 9-3 record. Flower Mound beat Plano East, 4-1, and is one game behind the 8-5A co-leaders.

The Arlington Martin baseball team, ranked fifth in the state in 5A, improved to 12-0 in District 4-5A with a 4-1 win over Arlington Lamar. … Brian Parks doubled and tripled as the Colleyville Heritage baseball team (23-4, 14-1), ranked eighth in the state in 5A, clinched the outright District 6-5A title with an 8-5 win over Haltom. … TCU signee Jake Thompson struck out five in three innings and had three RBIs as the Rockwall-Heath baseball team (23-6, 10-2), ranked fourth in the state in 4A, beat Wylie, 14-0, and maintained a two-game lead over Rockwall and Highland Park in 10-4A. … The Rockwall softball team beat McKinney North, 7-1, and maintained a one-game lead over Wylie in District 10-4A.

Greg Maisto, Southlake Carroll: Pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out 13 in a 6-0 win over Keller Central. Maisto has now pitched 24 consecutive scoreless innings. The win, coupled with Keller Fossil Ridge's 1-0 loss to Saginaw, gave Carroll sole possession of first place in District 7-5A

Cameron Sweeney, McKinney Boyd: Scattered seven hits in nine innings to lead Boyd (21-6, 10-2) to a 3-2 win over Sachse (20-6, 9-3). That left Boyd tied with Rowlett for first place in District 10-5A, and they play each other Friday.

Hunter Hargrove, Mansfield: Was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as District 5-5A leader Mansfield beat second-place Cedar Hill, 7-1.

Hayden Nixon, Frisco Wakeland: Pitched a three-hitter as Wakeland (19-7, 12-0 District 9-4A), the state's second-ranked 4A team, beat Carrollton Creekview, 2-1. Ryan Perry drove in both runs for Wakeland, which has clinched the 9-4A title.

Colin Firmin, Celina: Pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 13 in a 5-0 victory over Bonham.

Michael Stewart, Frisco Liberty: Had a double, triple and home run in a 12-2 win over Carrollton R.L. Turner.

SOFTBALL

Suzette Palmer, Denton Guyer: Pitched a two-hit shutout and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a 10-0 win over Keller Fossil Ridge.

Cherie Jackson, Carrollton Creekview: Hit her ninth home run of the season and tripled in a 13-3 victory against Frisco.

Hannah Newcomb, Frisco Wakeland: Pitched a one-hit shutout as Frisco Wakeland (25-6, 13-0 District 9-4A) beat Frisco Liberty, 4-0.

Skylar Cagle, Pilot Point: Struck out 16 in a 9-1 win over Argyle. Kimber Kuhn was 5-for-5 for Pilot Point.

April Ryan, Keller: Ryan, who has committed to Texas A&M, went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs as Keller (20-5, 12-1), the state's eighth-ranked 5A team, beat Coppell, 10-0, and remained one game ahead of Keller Central in District 7-5A. Louisiana Tech signee Bailee Kaderka pitched a two-hit shutout.

Amanda Claus, Midlothian: Was 4-for-4 and had a game-winning hit that drove in two runs in the sixth inning in a 5-3 win over Mansfield, the No. 10 team in SportsDay's 5A area rankings. Claus is 9-for-11 in her last three games, helping Midlothian earn a playoff berth.
