Rockwall-Heath holds off McKinney North
TCU signee Jake Thompson struck out 14 in six innings to lead the Rockwall-Heath baseball team to a 5-4 win over McKinney North on Tuesday.
Jovan Hernandez pitched the final inning as Rockwall-Heath (21-6, 8-2) — the No. 2 team in SportsDay’s 4A-others area rankings — maintained a one-game lead over Rockwall in District 10-4A. Rockwall, ranked fourth in the state in 4A, beat McKinney, 7-0.
Rockwall-Heath led, 5-1, before McKinney North scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh. Jake Bledsoe homered for Heath, Bret Boswell had three hits, and Hernandez had two RBIs.
The Colleyville Heritage baseball team got home runs from Preston Palmeiro, Cody Thomas and Brian Parks and beat Irving, 14-3. Colleyville Heritage (20-4, 11-1 District 6-5A), the No. 1 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, was shut out for the first three innings but then scored scored three runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and five runs in the seventh.

Kenny Hill, the star quarterback on Southlake Carroll’s state championship football team, homered in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Justin Northwest. Carroll maintained a two-game lead over Keller Fossil Ridge in District 7-5A. Fossil Ridge, ranked fourth in the state in 5A, beat Coppell, 2-1.
Austin Gehle pitched a shutout to lead the Frisco Wakeland baseball team, ranked sixth in the state in 4A, to a 2-0 win over Frisco Heritage. Wakeland improved to 10-0 in District 9-4A.
Connor Reed, Plano: Pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 to lead Plano (15-5-3, 8-2), the No. 5 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, to a 5-1 win over No. 3 Flower Mound. Ryan Robertson hit a three-run double in a five-run sixth as Plano remained tied with Plano East for first place in District 8-5A.
Jacob Boucher, Plano East: Had a game-winning, RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth in a 5-4 win against Allen.
Eric Williams, Sachse: Hit a game-winning, RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Sachse (19-4, 8-2 District 10-5A) a 3-2 win over Garland Lakeview. Sachse, the No. 10 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, tied the score, 2-2, when Trevor Garrard drew a bases-loaded walk on a full count with two outs in the seventh.
Joe Powell, Jesuit: Pitched a no-hitter as Jesuit (17-6-1, 9-0) beat Richardson Berkner, 10-0, in six innings to remain unbeaten in District 9-5A.
Nick Hendrix, Arlington Martin: Pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Arlington Martin (20-1-1, 10-0 District 4-5A), the state’s seventh-ranked 5A team, to a 10-0 victory against Arlington Sam Houston.
Mike Richardson, Celina: Threw a four-hit shutout, struck out 10 and went 3-for-4 in a 4-0 win vs. Anna.
2: Home runs hit by Argyle Liberty Christian baseball player Carson Dowdle in a 13-3 win over Bishop Dunne. He had five RBIs.
8: RBIs for Everman baseball player Josias Arismendy in a 10-4 win over Granbury. He had two doubles and a home run.
