Allen beats Flower Mound on walk-off hit

Jacob Martinez hit an RBI single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to score pinch runner Tom Phillips and give the Allen baseball team a 2-1 win over Flower Mound, the No. 3 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings.

Allen (11-6-1, 5-2) remained tied with Plano and Plano East for first place in District 8-5A, and they’re one game ahead of Flower Mound and Flower Mound Marcus. Troy Chezem pitched a five-hitter for Allen, and Christian Pena went 2-for-3.

Ryan Hoogerwerf had an RBI single for Allen in the first inning, but Flower Mound tied the score with a run in the fifth.

Hunter Rogers reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and Andrew Baldwin’s one-out single put runners at first and second. Then with two outs, Martinez provided the game-winning hit.

The Plano baseball team will play at Frisco Wakeland at 1 p.m. Saturday in a nondistrict matchup of area powers. Plano is No. 5 in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings. Wakeland is ranked seventh in the state in 4A and is No. 3 in the area.

The Plano baseball team, ranked fifth in the area in 5A, scored two runs in the top of the eighth and beat Plano West, 2-1.


Willie Schwanke, Frisco Wakeland: The Arkansas signee went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs as Wakeland (13-7, 7-0 District 9-4A), the state’s seventh-ranked 4A team, beat Carrollton R.L. Turner, 10-0.

Kaleb Greaux, Sachse: Pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight to lead Sachse (15-4, 5-2 District 10-5A) to a 6-0 win over Garland.

Garrett Grim, Keller: The TCU signee threw a three-hitter and struck out seven to help Keller (10-9, 4-3 District 7-5A) to a 4-2 win over Keller Fossil Ridge, the state’s fourth-ranked 5A team.

Nolan Brown, Colleyville Heritage: Pitched a four-hit shutout as Colleyville Heritage, the No. 1 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, beat Hurst L.D. Bell, 3-0.

Matt Herrick, Garland Naaman Forest: Pitched a three-hitter as Naaman Forest (11-5, 6-1 District 10-5A), the No. 9 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, beat North Garland, 8-1.

Hayden Parker, Frisco Liberty: Needed just 80 pitches to throw a four-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Frisco.

Spencer Edwards, Rockwall: The Texas signee doubled and homered as Rockwall, the state’s fourth-ranked 4A team, beat Richardson Pearce, 7-5. Rockwall leads District 10-4A by one game over Rockwall-Heath.



37: Runs scored by the Carrollton Christian baseball team in a 37-1, four-inning win over Irving The Highlands. Carrollton Christian scored 20 runs in the first three innings, then 17 in the fourth.

20: Stolen bases for the First Baptist baseball team in a 9-2 win over Waco Reicher. Andrew Byrd had seven steals, and Josh Johnson had six.

7: RBIs for Arlington Martin baseball player Anthony Lyons in a 13-10 win against Fort Worth Paschal. He hit a grand slam for Martin, the No. 2 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings.
