Rockwall-Heath star pitcher Jovan Hernandez threw a three-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over McKinney Boyd in the I-30 Classic. He also hit two home runs for the state’s second-ranked 4A baseball team. Jake Thompson homered against Boyd and had two doubles in a 4-0 win vs. Bryan Rudder.

Playing in the Frisco Tournament of Champions, the Colleyville Heritage baseball team pounded out eight hits in a 7-3 win over Southlake Carroll, the state’s fourth-ranked 5A team. Colleyville Heritage also beat Hebron, 8-0.

The Plano baseball team, ranked eighth in the state in 5A, beat Frisco Centennial, 4-1.

STANDOUTS

Jesse Cox, McKinney: Pitched three innings of no-hit ball and went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in a 12-0 win over Burkburnett in the Denison Ty Comstock Classic. Cox combined with Brett Gannaway on a four-inning no-hitter.

Ryan Dean, Mansfield Legacy: Hit two home runs and had three RBIs in a 9-8 win over Mansfield Summit in the Jerry's Sporting Goods Legacy Classic. Legacy scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win it. Dean also had two RBIs in a 6-1 win vs. Waxahachie and a double and triple in an 8-0 win vs. Burleson.

Jett Meenach, Flower Mound: Pitched a five-hit shutout and had an RBI as Flower Mound (11-2) beat Midland, 3-0, in the Highland Park tournament.

Al Higgins, Jesuit: Pitched a five-hit shutout as Jesuit beat Wylie, 3-0, in the Highland Park tournament.

Hayden Nixon, Frisco Wakeland: Pitched a six-hit shutout and struck out nine in a 3-0 win against Haltom in the Frisco Tournament of Champions.
