Baseball replay: HP routs McKinney, ties for 10-4A title


Tie for first in 5-5A

Matt Contreras hit a grand slam, and Jonathon Reyes and Preston Manka also homered as South Grand Prairie beat Grand Prairie, 16-3, and finished tied for first with Mansfield in District 5-5A. Clint Harris was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs, and Matt Michalski struck out 10 as Mansfield beat Midlothian, 11-1. South Grand Prairie (23-9, 12-2) will play at Mansfield at 2 p.m. Saturday to determine the district’s top seed in the playoffs.

Tie for first in 8-5A

Justin Arrington was 2-for-2 with two RBIs as Plano beat Plano West, 6-5, and finished tied with Hebron for first in District 8-5A. Hebron lost to Flower Mound Marcus, 9-3. Trey Walker was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Marcus. Plano and Hebron will play at noon Saturday at Allen to determine the district’s No. 1 playoff seed.

Tie for first in 10-4A

Clay Evans and Mark Gottsacker homered as Highland Park beat McKinney, 11-2, and finished tied with Rockwall-Heath for first in District 10-4A. Jovan Hernandez pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 in five innings as Rockwall-Heath beat Wylie East, 11-0. Highland Park (28-4, 12-2), the state’s eighth-ranked 4A team, and Rockwall-Heath will have a coin flip Saturday to determine the district’s top seed.


Adam Choplick, Denton Ryan: Pitched a perfect game and struck out 16 in a 3-0 victory against Little Elm.

Jake Thompson, Rockwall-Heath: Was 4-for-4 with three home runs and six RBIs in an 11-0 win over Wylie East.

Sean McCracken, Frisco Wakeland: Was 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs as the state’s fourth-ranked 4A team beat Carrollton R.L. Turner, 13-1, to win the District 9-4A title.

Patrick McLendon, Southlake Carroll: Was 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the state’s eighth-ranked 5A team beat Denton Guyer, 10-0, and won the District 7-5A title.

Tyler Hernandez, Coppell: Was 5-for-5 with six RBIs as Coppell (27-6-1, 12-2) , the No. 1 team in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, beat Keller Central, 13-5. Coppell finished second in District 7-5A.

Cesar Barco, North Dallas: Didn’t allow a hit in three innings and had two hits as North Dallas (16-11, 13-1) beat South Oak Cliff, 13-0, to win the District 11-4A title.
