Softball player of the week (5/6): Ennis' Riley Fira

What she did: Fira went 4-for-5 with three home runs and nine RBIs to lead Ennis to a two-game sweep of Royse City in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. Fira had two hits — both home runs — in Saturday's series-clinching, 10-3 victory. Ennis (30-2), the state's third-ranked 4A team, advanced to play Lovejoy in a best-of-3 Region II quarterfinal series that starts Friday.

Who is she? A senior catcher who has signed with UT-Arlington.

The stats: Fira is hitting .488 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs. In the regular season, Fira tied for the Dallas-area lead in RBIs with 58 and tied for fourth in home runs with 10.

She said it: "Hopefully we'll make it all the way to state, but we're just going to take it one game at a time."
