Baseball player of the week (4/29): Plano's Ryan Thomas
What he did: Thomas hit two home runs and pitched a four-hit shutout as Plano beat Allen, 7-0, in a district tiebreaker game. The next day, in another tiebreaker game against Plano West to determine the No. 1 seed in 10-5A, Thomas hit a third home run as Plano lost, 5-4. Thomas went 3-for-9 in Plano’s three games this week with three home runs, five RBIs and three runs.
Who is he? A 6-3 senior pitcher and first baseman.
The stats: Thomas has a .273 average with seven home runs and 19 RBIs. He has also pitched 46 innings, going 3-4 with a 3.35 ERA.
He said it: “I was struggling [to hit] early in the season, but started finding it again. I changed my swing up a little bit … and I guess it worked out.”

Did you know? Thomas blew out his arm when he was younger and
stopped pitching, but after trying it in the fall, Robertson opted to use him on
the mound. … Thomas is signed to play for Navarro Junior College. … Plano plays
