Baseball player of the week (3/25): Midlothian's Tanner Dickerson
What he did: Dickerson went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a solo home run, two doubles and eight RBIs in two games this week, as Midlothian beat DeSoto, 13-0, on Tuesday and South Grand Prairie, 6-0, on Friday.
Who is he? A senior designated hitter.
The stats: Dickerson is hitting .333 this year with four home runs and 22 RBIs.
He said it: “It’s just shocking. My past three years I really hadn’t hit the ball this well. I don’t know, since our team is doing good it’s just building up on me to clutch up and hit the ball.”
Coach said it: “The other night he just exploded. He hit a ball against Mansfield at our place when the wind blows in, I guarantee if the wind wasn’t blowing in — he still almost hit it out — he would have had another homer to add to those totals. He’s just a good pure hitter.” — Ray Hydes
Did you know? Dickerson has been strictly a designated hitter this year because of shoulder surgery in October. He also catches and plays third base and has been cleared to return to the field. ... Dickerson says he wants to play college baseball and has visited Howard Payne University, and he’s talked with Northwood University.
