Defensive player of the week (11/26): Celina's Braylin Brown
What he did: In Celina’s Class 3A Division II playoff game against Madison on Friday, Brown returned a blocked extra-point attempt 83 yards for two points after Madison moved to within one score of Celina. He later intercepted two passes as Celina rolled to a 51-20 win.
Who he is: A 6-0, 155-pound junior cornerback
The stats: Two interceptions, an 83-yard blocked PAT return for two points, five tackles (four solo) and two pass breakups.
He said it: “We came out kind of slow in the first half, and I knew that we needed a spark. When they scored that touchdown, I was telling all the people on defense, ‘Just go in there, see if we can block it.’ They blocked it, and I took it back to the house. I knew something had to be done right away.”
Coach said it: “He’s our best cover guy. We always put him on the best athlete they’ve got and let him take him out of the game. He’s been a huge part of a lot of stuff we’ve been doing all year long.” — Bill Elliot.
Did you know? Brown also plays receiver, returns kicks and
covers kickoffs. He recovered an onside kick against Madison. … He is also a
member of Celina’s basketball team and its track team, running the 400 meters
and on the mile relay team.
