Offensive player of the week (10/01): Coppell’s Cameron Smith
What he did: Smith caught a tying 35-yard touchdown pass with 5:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, then grabbed a game-winning 23-yard touchdown pass in overtime, as Coppell upset No. 1 Allen.
Who he is: A 6-0, 180-pound senior wide receiver.
The stats: Smith caught six passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
He said it: “I remember looking straight up at the ref and seeing his arms raised, and then I knew we had done it. We did what we came to do. It was a great feeling.”
Coach said it: “His junior year was filled with injuries, so I’m happy he’s healthy and playing well and getting this opportunity. He’s a go-to guy for us.”
