GIRLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MANSFIELD SUMMIT’S ASHLEY ELI
What she did: Eli was instrumental in a comeback win Feb. 21 against Arlington Seguin, playing the role of scorer and ball-stopping defender. In the 4A Region I tournament, she was named tournament MVP — helping Summit back to the state tournament for the first time since 2009.
Who she is: A 5-9 forward
The stats: Eli scored a team-high 15 points in a 4-OT win over Canyon in the regional semis, then had 25 points and seven rebounds in the final vs. Clint Horizon.
She said it: “I’m just proud that we had the mental toughness to hit those key free throws and showed the mental toughness to stick in there. … We were so evenly matched. I’ve never played a game like that, where every possession really mattered.” — on her team’s 4-OT win over Canyon

Did you know? Eli has signed with North Carolina State. … She played AAU ball on the DFW T-Jack Elite team, with area stars Moriah Jefferson, Alexis Jones, Jordan Jones and Empress Davenport.
