Defensive player of the week (9/5): Mansfield's George Baltimore
What he did: He made big plays on defense, special teams, and even on offense. He led the team in tackles, and his long touchdowns provided the spark in a 40-27 victory over Keller.
The stats: He scored on a 95-yard interception return and an 80-yard punt return — the game’s first two scores. He had nine tackles (seven solos) and rushed three times for 13 yards.
Who he is: A 5-11, 195-pound junior safety, return man and backup running back.
He said it: “When I jumped in front of the receiver, there were only big bodies in front of me and I knew I could get past them. When I got to the 50 I could hardly breathe, because I’d had that long [punt return] just before; my speed got me there.’’
Coach said it: “Those two scores were huge. If you look at the final score, that was the difference in the game.’’ — Jeff Hulme
