Boys basketball player of the week: Highland Park's David Allen

What he did: In two victories last week, Allen totaled 80 points. He scored a school-record 53 on Friday night in a triple-overtime victory against McKinney.

Who he is: A 6-1 junior guard

The stats: 27 points Tuesday against Rockwall-Heath, 53 points Friday against McKinney. The 27 points had been a career-high.

He said it: "One of our best players, Luke Turpin, was sick and so our coach was saying we had to step up to make up for the loss. Everything just kind of fell my way."
