2012 Girls Basketball Coach, Newcomer of the Year: Milestone for Duncanville's Self-Morgan; Carroll's Leonard excelled as freshman

CATHY SELF-MORGAN, Duncanville
It was a milestone season for Self-Morgan, and literally a banner year for Duncanville. The Pantherettes won their seventh state title, dismantling Spring Dekaney, 69-31, in the most lopsided 5A championship game ever. Along the way to a 40-1 season, Self-Morgan won her 900th game.

KENNEDY LEONARD, SL Carroll, Fr., G, 5-8
Stats: Averaged 9.1 points, a team-high 5.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals, starting all 34 games for Southlake Carroll (30-4). With injury problems plaguing her team, the freshman scored a game-high 17 points in a 56-52 Class 5A bi-district win over Plano.
