Stars voice Dave Strader says he has 'rare and aggressive' cancer

Stars play-by-play voice Dave Strader released a statement Wednesday afternoon updating his medical condition. It does not appear he will be joining the team any time soon.

Look for Daryl Reaugh to slide over from the analyst seat and Craig Ludwig to move from the studio to the analyst seat.

"In early June 2016, a tumor was found in my bile duct," Strader's statement said. "...There is no cure for my cancer. However, at this point it is treatable."

This is the first time Strader has offered details of his condition. He announced he had cancer soon after last season ended.

A veteran broadcaster, Strader joined the Stars before last season, replacing Ralph Strangis, who had been part of the franchise's broadcast crew since it arrived from Minnesota in 1993. Strader has also called games for NBCSN.

Strader is back home in upstate New York and receiving treatment in the area.

"With the start of the NHL season almost upon us, I wanted to share an update on my condition with everyone who has been kind enough to reach out over the past several months. In early June 2016, a tumor was found in my bile duct. I was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a fairly rare and aggressive form of cancer.

"There is no cure for my cancer. However, at this point in time, it is treatable. With advancements in all areas of cancer treatments evolving so quickly, I'm fighting every day and doing everything the doctors tell me. The Stars' organization, the fans and the entire NHL family have been so supportive. It has meant so much to me, my wife Colleen and our entire family to know that we are not in this fight alone. I will work as many games as my condition and my treatments allow. Thank you again for all your love and support."
