Tyler Seguin returns to practice for first time since Achilles injury: 'I was definitely excited to get back out there'

Stars center Tyler Seguin tested his ailing Achilles tendon Monday and liked the results, but his availability for Game 1 of the playoff still is up in the air.

The second leading scorer on the Stars (and 14th in the league) with 73 points in 72 games, Seguin has missed the past 10 games after getting his Achilles tendon cut March 17. He has been skating on his own, but tested it Monday in a full practice.

"It felt good being around the guys and out there around bodies," Seguin said. "I was definitely excited to get back out there."

Stars coach Lindy Ruff said it was a step in the process to get Seguin back into the lineup, but added that he's not ready to commit to a return for Game 1.

"I thought he got through it OK," Ruff said. "I don't think he was at full speed, but it was good to see him back out there. We just go day to day. Not going to rule him out, but I can't tell you he is in right now."

Seguin said he would push hard and then let the doctors and coaches make the decision.

"It's not fully up to me. I am doing everything I can to be prepared," Seguin said. "Obviously, I want to be playing, and I am trying to get there."

Ruff said Monday was a good sign.

"Today was the next step," Ruff said. "When he can go 100 percent, go full out, then we'll know where he is. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Wednesday. Today was a good step in the right direction."
