Mavericks owner Mark Cuban: Donald Trump will run a 'Seinfeld campaign' about nothing; Ted Cruz's plan was 'full of crap'

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is talking about Donald Trump again.

Cuban, who has said he'd be the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's running mate if called upon, said that Trump is going to run a "Seinfeld campaign."

"Donald Trump is going to run the Seinfeld campaign. It's going to be the campaign about nothing," Cuban said on Neil Cavuto's Fox News show. Cuban was referring to an oft-cited, simplistic description of the 1990s sitcom.

Cuban also said that Trump was "brilliant" for catching onto the trend that the election was moving away from a partisan bent to a more "tribal," sort of "what about me" bent.

“I don’t even think we’re partisan anymore,” he said. “I think we’re tribal, and Donald’s got that whole ‘What about me?’ tribe running behind him. And he's excited them to come out and vote for him.”

"And Donald addressed immigration, he addressed trade, he addressed all these things. No substance whatsoever. But he said to people who are concerned about themselves, ‘I can fix it,’" Cuban said.

Cuban explained that he likes the way Trump has energized people. He said that keeping the fervor more relevant than the issues will be part of the key to defeating Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

"The more Donald talks about issues, the more it plays right into the hand of Hillary and more the eyes of his ‘what about me’ tribe glaze over."

Cuban also talked about Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and why he doesn't like recent campaign dropout.

"He was dogmatic, he was full of crap on his program," Cuban said. "I’ll give you one perfect example: He wanted to change to a value-added tax. But more importantly, he wanted to eliminate the IRS Day 1. That was one of his pillars. That’s 90,000 people. That would be the largest layoff in the history of the world on Day 1. Then on the flip side he says because we’re cutting taxes, every graduate is going to have not two, not three, but four or five job offers. It was just crazy."

Cavuto asked Cuban if he'd like to see Cruz as Trump's vice presidential nominee.

"No," Cuban said with a laugh. "And I know Donald wouldn’t either."

All that said, Cuban still isn't sure who he plans to vote for.

"I don't know yet. ... I think there's a lot of basketball to be played yet, and it's going to be really interesting how Hillary responds to Donald. If Hillary stays Hillary, I think it really hurts her and really helps Donald. If Hillary can really make it tough on Donald to just do the Seinfeld campaign, then I think she's got a better chance."
