Laufenberg: Can Romo lead Cowboys to seven straight wins? Let's put this in context

Babe Laufenberg, Dallas Cowboys radio color analyst and former NFL quarterback, answered questions about the team in a chat Wednesday. Here are some highlights.

Question: What did you make of Tony Romo's "Major League" tweet on Tuesday?

Babe Laufenberg: Well, the good thing was that it did not start a Twitter fight. So yeah, all good. But let's put winning seven games in a row into context. Romo has done that once in his career but that was eight years ago. Had a six-game winning streak last year, so not saying it is impossible, but certainly improbable. This I do know ... you can't win 'em all before you win the first one. And the first one starts Sunday in Miami.

Question: What should I make of social media as it pertains to players interacting with fans? Seems like it is a distraction and hurts them a lot more than it helps them.

Cowboys

Be the smartest Cowboys fan. Get the latest news.

Or with:

Babe Laufenberg: You are right on with your analysis. How the first thing you can do is get back to the locker room and look at your Twitter account after a game, especially a loss, is beyond me. I am a relative novice to the whole social media thing, but a little more knowledgeable than Jason Garret ("I heard the Cowboys have just reached a million LIGHTS" ... that would be "likes," coach) or Bill Belichick ("My Face, Your Face, Instant Face, I really don't pay attention to that stuff"). But, like the rest of us, these guys need to put their phones down for a minute. Something tells me if Ocho Cinco were still playing, he would score a TD and pull his phone out of his sock and tweet a selfie.

Question: Will we see Dez be the dynamic player we are used to now that Romo is back?

Babe Laufenberg: It will elevate everyone's game, but yeah, Dez And Jason Witten should be at the top of that list. And why not? Dez is your best receiver and Witten a future Hall-of-Fame tight end. Of equal importance, Romo has such a mastery of this offense that he will have the Cowboys in the right play the vast majority of the time. Don't underestimate that.

Question: Hey Babe, yesterday Brandon Weeden was quickly and unceremoniously released in the middle of the season. It got me thinking about how strange life must be to be an NFL player. I am wondering how difficult getting released is on an NFL player and his family.

Babe Laufenberg: Yeah, never easy, for the player or the family. And you wonder if Weeden will even get back into the league. A chance this could be his last hurrah, although I don't think so. But 32-years-old and an 11-game losing streak as a starter now on his resume. I always say, there are no gold watches in this business. My guess is he didn't get one, either. Here today, gone tomorrow. Great sport. Tough business. (Editor's note: Weeden was reportedly claimed by the Houston Texans on Wednesday).
