QB Brandon Weeden claimed by Texans day after release from Cowboys

Brandon Weeden wasn't without a team for long. Houston claimed the quarterback off waivers Wednesday, the day after the Cowboys released him.

Here's what Garrett had to say regarding the decision to cut the player who started three games earlier this season in Tony Romo's absence:

"In regards to Weeds, we anticipate Tony being able to come back and play this week," Garrett said. "We just needed the roster spot.

"Brandon did a good job for us over the last year and a half when he had opportunities. I thought he competed well. I thought he led well. Unfortunately, we didn't have success in the games that he started.

"We just felt those were the best moves for our team right now," he said. "We'll create competitive situations for guys and the guy who competes the best is going to be the guy who gets a chance to play and the guys who get a chance to stay."
