Cowlishaw: Jason Garrett is the Cowboys' coach for now 'and several years to come'

Tim Cowlishaw, sports columnist for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, author of Drunk on Sports and panelist on ESPN's Around the Horn, answered questions about the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks and local college sports in a chat Thursday. Here are some of the highlights:

Question: What's the point of rushing Romo back this season instead of letting him get healthy? Yeah, Dez caught that crazy TD, but he already is missing practices with a new injury after rushing back from his foot thing.

Cowlishaw: I don't think there's any rushing with Tony. They put him on IR which put him out for two months. He looks like he could play now but he has to wait another week. With Dez's foot, I am in agreement that it appeared they were rushing it and either he wasn't ready against Seattle or he just wasn't ready for Richard Sherman. Knee is bigger concern now.

Question: What happened to the Cowboys' magical Marinelli defense?

Cowboys

Or with:

Cowlishaw: You mean you don't like being tied for last in takeaways? Tied for 25th I believe in sacks? Yeah, we can't put that all on the Scandrick injury, can we? I think we need to remember what DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys' style of offense did for the defense last year. Plus Romo being hurt has had a substantial impact on the defense. But they have got to make some plays at some point.

Question: The Cowboy RB by committee seems to have gone south and McFadden is the main event. With eight games to go, for some reason I have some angina over this because his injury history is not on his (or the Cowboys) side. Can Will McClay pull another running back out of the hat, if necessary?

Cowlishaw: Does Seattle have anyone left? This team has already taken two runs at the Seahawks roster for backs and a plunge into the Washington practice squad. Can't imagine there is much left out there. It's McFadden or bust, buddy.

Question: Thee NFL coaches hot seat started early this year but I think it will get really hot somewhere along Week 12 or 13. How close to the Cowboys' house will this flame scorch said seats?

Cowlishaw: Haha, not that close. Jason Garrett is the coach for now and several years to come I would think. They would have to be 2-6 with a full roster and Romo at the helm for him to be in trouble with Jerry.
