Tim Cowlishaw, sports columnist for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, author of Drunk on Sports and panelist on ESPN's Around the Horn, answered questions about the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks and local college sports in a chat Thursday. Here are some of the highlights:
Question: Jeff Van Gundy says it's absurd for Dallas fans to boo DeAndre Jordan and cheer Greg Hardy. Does he not get entertainment?
Cowlishaw: I like Jeff, I think he was just going for a clever comment. It's pretty irrelevant. Jordan is a rival player. Hardy plays here. There is no outpouring of love for Hardy unless he makes a play. I don't see an abundance of Hardy jerseys on fans. It was just kind of silly.
Question: I'm no Hardy fan and wish he weren't on the Cowboys, but I find it interesting that the media is piling on about his case. It seems all are in a rush to be on the Side of Angels and proclaim their righteous indignation. Even Van Gundy got into the act last night while broadcasting a BASKETBALL game. Is it just a race to see who can climb up on the highest horse? Please comment as a wise member of the MSSM (Main Stream Sports Media).
Cowlishaw: I don't disagree with you. I have written more than I planned to about Hardy and tried to be fair while doing it. I'm not sure exactly how the NFL has chosen to leak all this stuff to Deadspin this week. That seems a bit troubling aside from what's in the information. I keep saying it will die down now. I keep being wrong.
Question: What'd you think of the Greg Hardy's Twitter bio?
Cowlishaw: I think it's a minor nuisance at best.
Question: What are the odds that Greg Hardy will be with the Cowboys next year?
Cowlishaw: That's a great question. I'd say a little better than 50-50 but we have a long way to go this season.
