Bob Sturm: Here's an offer I'd be OK with to re-sign Greg Hardy

Special contributor Bob Sturm answered questions in a chat. Here are some highlights.

Question: How about the job Brandon Weeden did for Houston today? The difference between today and his Cowboys stint is surprising. Did he all of a sudden get good? This is on the Cowboy's GM, coaches Garrett on down, and the sorriness of team personnel. Basically his game today with the Houston Texans just illustrates how bad a team the 'Boys are, coaching and personnel. I like seeing Brandon Weeden enjoy some success.

Bob Sturm: I hear this plenty and Weeden obviously impressed for the Texans. That said, I have never heard from more people about a QB throwing for 105 yards in 18 attempts. Frankly, that is less than 6 yards an attempt and demonstrates what we normally see from a Weeden offense - no stretch, no explosiveness, and very rare production because he doesn't use much of the field. He is captain check down and while he seems like a decent guy, I don't rate him at all as a legit NFL QB. So, I really don't think his success was much to throw a parade about. Frankly, of the 4 QBs in Dallas this year, he is the least useful to me - and I realize that says a lot. But, he never threw the ball downfield - AT ALL.

Question: Should the Cowboys bring back Greg Hardy? If they do, what is the most years and money they should offer him?

Cowboys

Bob Sturm: They certainly may have a chance to bring him back given how he sabotaged his attractiveness to the rest of the league. I would be ok with 3/$25 or something for him because he is still a game-wrecker and he still has his prime, but the days of $12m per season are gone, I should hope.

Question: Do Cowboys fans have anything to really look forward to? Next season our core players will be one year older; Jones & company have, yet again, proven to be incompetent GMs as they have hit with a few key top draft picks but the team is ultimately thin on talent and backups (obviously). And worst of all, Garret has time and again proven to be a horrible play-calling coach.

Bob Sturm: That is a pessimistic view, but I share the optimistic one. If Romo is healthy, this team is a playoff team next year. They will get some very high level talent in the draft and already grabbed a number of blue chip stocks in 2015. They are really solid at many spots and have a young roster that is mostly homegrown. I don't think Jerry Jones is a good GM and I don't love the coach. That said, they don't seem to far away from one of the weakest divisions in football.

Question: i may be in the minority here but i think the cowboys can bounce back next season with a healthy romo dez scandrick. guys like gregory, david irving, hitchens, all three are solid and young and they should start next year and not too mention demarcus lawrence is starting to come into his own. i dont see mo claiborne or carr coming back next year and i think wilcox loses his starting position to byron jones. Jerry has to draft a rb high in the draft and we need to replace our corners. what do you think?

Bob Sturm: I think for the most part, I agree with this assessment. I think there is quite a bit to feel pretty good about.
