Cowboys' Dez Bryant defends excessive celebration penalty: We needed confidence boost

Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams were hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration after William's touchdown late in the second quarter of the Dallas Cowboys' win over the Miami Dolphins.

The two did a little posing.

"I mean, me and Dez just had a party, that's all,'' Williams said.

The 15-yard penalty and poorly executed kickoff -- the Cowboys didn't want Dan Bailey to get the ball too high so it was a cross between a normal kick and a squib -- gave the Dolphins the ball on their own 46-yard line. Three plays later, Miami scored.

That sequence would have been a bigger deal if Cowboys had lost the game.

"I'll tell you this,'' Bryant said. "You know those kinds of moments, we don't want a flag, we don't, but that strikes confidence. Everybody on the sidelines sees it and the guys on the field, you know, it just gives you that extra boost of confidence.

"And I think that's something that we needed.''

The penalty was enforced on the kickoff.
