Sean Lee changes helmets after second concussion, no plans to change how he plays

IRVING -- Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee passed concussion protocol and practiced all week, clearing him to play Sunday in Miami.

"I feel great," Lee said Friday. "I'll be ready to go this week. I had a good week of practice. I'm excited to get back on the field and play with the guys."

Lee said he hasn't experienced any concussion symptoms since suffering the head injury against the Eagles on Nov. 8. Although Lee was medically cleared last week, he did not play Sunday in Tampa because it was his second concussion in a five-week period.

"That's kind of what their deal is if you have a second concussion," Lee said. "They want to make sure that you have a little bit longer to heal from that. I have not had symptoms. I took the concussion test last week and was able to pass it, so I've felt good all along."

Lee, who said he hasn't had a concussion since his rookie year, is wearing a different helmet this week. The new model has a slightly smaller face mask.

"The helmet I've used is something I used in college," he said. "It was a good helmet, I'm just trying to use a different one."

Lee's second concussion occurred while he was diving to make a tackle early in the third quarter. While in the air, he collided head-first with Cowboys middle linebacker Rolando McClain.

"I think the hit that I took was just wrong place at the wrong time, falling, wasn't able to really protect myself," Lee said. "Kind of falling over the running back. You still got to go hit and tackle the right way, with the right form.

"There are certain things you're not going to be able to avoid. I think if you try to play a different way, it would lead to more injuries, probably."
