Humphrey makes quick decision, says 'Oklahoma just felt right'

Parish Episcopal's Eric Humphrey had a busy month ahead of him.

With scheduled recruiting visits to Arkansas, Baylor, Wake Forest and Southern California in January, the defensive tackle was on track to be courted and wooed like a superstar for the next four weeks.

Change of plans though.

Humphrey sat down with his parents on Wednesday, made a pro-con list of playing at Oklahoma and decided the Sooners were the best fit. So it's official -- Humphrey has committed to play football at Oklahoma.

"Oklahoma just felt right," he said. "I felt at home."

Humphrey insisted Oklahoma's coaches, including defensive line coach Jackie Shipp, didn't pressure him to make a decision or change his upcoming plans.

"The program speaks for itself," he said. "I made that decision for myself … It felt right because I'd been thinking about it for a while now. It just felt like it was the time to."

Humphrey (6-3, 274 pounds) said he visited the Sooners' campus on Dec. 8, and his impressions of the coaches, players, facilities and city never really left his mind. Just don't ask him the words to Boomer Sooner yet.

"The coaching and the camaraderie of the players, and the campus is beautiful," Humphrey said, describing what impressed him the most about Oklahoma. "I feel like I can make a difference."

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is scheduled to visit Humphrey next week, he said. Besides Oklahoma, Humphrey also visited Texas Tech and TCU.
