Texas A&M linebacker arrested, charged with assault after allegedly injuring girlfriend

A&M junior linebacker Josh Walker was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting a family member.

Walker, who played in 11 games last season as a sophomore, was arrested by the College Station Police Department on Friday and has been charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member. The Gilmer native was also charged with interfering with an emergency request for assistance. Both charges are Class A misdemeanors.

Walker allegedly pushed his girlfriend down on Friday afternoon, where she fell on a child's rocker and suffered some bruising and a knot on her hip, according to CSPD corporal Matthew Alaniz.

After the alleged assault, Walker took his girlfriend's phone and prevented her  from contacting the police, Alaniz said. Walker then gave his girlfriend his phone to make the call, but took it back from her once it was made, the spokesperson said.

When the call was received by the CSPD dispatch around 1:41 p.m. Friday, it appeared the phone was placed in a pocket and not disconnected, Alaniz said. The officer said the dispatcher heard a dispute between a male and female, who told the male to "get off of her" before sounds of a disturbance were heard.

The news was first reported by the Houston Chronicle. Walker's cumulative $9,000 bond was posted Saturday afternoon and he will be released on Sunday, according to the Brazos County Sherriff's Office.

An A&M spokesperson said Walker has been suspended indefinitely per athletic department policy.

Walker played in 11 games last season and tallied 18 tackles. During his freshman season, he won the starting role at middle linebacker before breaking his foot late in the season against Missouri. The junior was listed as the third-string middle linebacker on the team's post-spring depth chart.
